This year we promise to have a great selection of water plants for all
you pond and bog owners out there. Even if you have a large piece of
pottery or a whiskey barrel that will hold water, we can help you turn
it into a water feature that will wow your visitors. Most of our plants
are hardy for our Zone 5/6 but, some will be tropicals that must be
protected from freezing. Here are just some of the water plants we’ll
have for this year:
- Surfacing
Plants (floating leaves): water hawthorne, lotus, water lilies
- Floating Plants: water hyacinth, duckweed,
water lettuce
- Marginals (plants for the bog or shallow water):
sweet flag; flowering rush, marsh marigold; papyrus; cotton grass;
variegated manna grass; Houttuynia cordata;
Iris versicolor, pseudacorus and laevigata; rush ; bog bean; monkey
flower; forget-me-not; pickerel rush; arrowhead; lizard’s tail;
bulrush; water canna; Tulbaghia violacea ‘Variegata’;
cattail; wild rice
- Moisture loving plants (tolerant of moist draining
soils): Astilbe; goatsbeard; giant reed; Gunnera; Hosta;
Iris fulva, foetidissima, elata (Japanese), and siberica; creeping
Jenny,; primrose; monkey flower; Rodgersia; Trollius
- Shrubs: summersweet, shrubby dogwood,
Hydrangea, willow
- Trees: red maple, birch, sweet
gum, tulip tree, dawn redwood, aspen, willow
